Margibi County Senator, Nathaniel McGill, has warned the Unity Party-led government against disrespecting the former President of Liberia, George Manneh Weah.

According to Senator McGill, the denial of former President Weah from using the VIP Lounge at the RobertsInternational Airport on Tuesday, February 27, 2024 was gravely disrespectful to him and the country as a whole.

The Margibi County lawmaker made the statement Wednesday at a press conference held at the Capitol Building in Monrovia.

He asserted that Liberia is divided based on the result of the 2023 election, and the Unity Party-led government,headed by the President Joseph Nyuma Boakai, should be able to unite the people as well as maintaining the peace of the nation.

According to him, Liberians desire peace and stability to move the country’s development and the living standard of the people forward, rather than confusion.

“This is Liberia we are talking about, and not the Coalition for Democratic Change(CDC) or Unity Party(UP), so we should be careful how to treat the former President, who just left office one month ago,” Senator McGill maintained.

He noted that the action against former President Weah should be investigated to prevent such ugly behavior from being exhibited again.

He underscored that Liberia is a small country with asmall population, and “there is no need to create confusion among ourselves”, noting that this kind of action can lead to serious crises.

The Margibi County lawmaker appealed to President Boakai to help unify the Liberian people despite their political differences to enhance the democratic governing process.

According to him, during the CDC-led government,headed by former President Weah, the former Vice President Boakai was accorded all respect and dignity, and hope that President Boakai and his officials will do the same.
