The Senate Committee Chairman on Energy, Grand Cape Mount County Senator, Simeon Taylor, has called on the United Nations and donor community to support the regional effort in limiting the threat of climate change.
In his opening address at the three-day annual regional conference on climate change hosted in Monrovia, Senator Taylor warned that, without funding to discourage logging and other factors that contribute to climate change the sub-regional effort will not achieve its goal.
He urged the delegates to the conference to mount pressure on their respective countries to cooperate fully with the international community in finding solution to the problems of climate change.
Touching on the host country, Liberia, Senator Taylor, also Chairman of the conference, said the impact of climate change is visible in his country, with unprecedented changes in rainfall and other atmospheric conditions.
The conference immediately entered into a working session, lasting several hours.
About seventy-five parliamentarians representing sixteen West African states are in Monrovia to participate in the second annual sub-regional conference on climate change.
The sub-regional lawmakers are seeking to access international funding to limit the emission of Green House Gases in the sub-region, which is widely blamed for global warming.
The three-day meeting, which began on Tuesday, will also discuss the impact of climate change on the sub-region and advance proposals to end the carnage.
