The plenary of the Liberian Senate has cited the authorities of the Liberia Electricity Corporation (LEC) to appear before a Committee of a Whole on Thursday, August 25, 2022.

The authorities will appear to explain happenings at the corporation with regards to the expiration of the Management Services Contract of the ESBI since July 20, 2022.

The plenary’s decision was triggered by a communication from Montserrado County Senator, Abraham Darius Dillon, in which he informed plenary of the departure of all ESBI team members from the country without any report to the plenary of the Senate that they may know the status of the LEC, and why they left the company.

The Montserrado County Senator further told plenary that the team members were paid US$22.7 million of public monies in five years as management service contract fees, and they were further given US$14.7 million under the Millennium Challenge Compact, headed by Monie R. Captan, and US$8 million under the World Bank LESSAP project.

These amounts, according to the communication, are supposed to fill in the gaps that the bank could not cover under the first two projects, LACEEP and LACEEP-AF, in Margibi, Montserrado, Bomi and Cape Mount counties.
