The Executive Director of Slum Dwellers for Rural Network has expressed thanks and appreciation to Monrovia City Mayor, Jefferson Tamba Koijee, for paying attention to underprivileged children.

Daniel Doe disclosed that Mayor Koijee paid US$1,500 in tuition for at least 100 children across slum communities in Montserrado County.

He said Mayor Koijee provided US$3,000 to settle the financial requirements of academic years 20200—2021 and 2021—2022 in order for their children in the slum communities to go to school. Two of the parents, Joseph Nagbe and Cynthia Washington, thanked Mayor Koijee for the gesture.

The communities that were selected to benefit from the assistance are New Kru Town, Doe Community, Logan Town and West Point.

The initiative is under the theme, “Koijee’s Slum Children Initiative”, and is implement by Liberia Slum Dwellers for Rural Network.

At the same time, the network’s executive director has pleaded with Mayor Koijee to connect the organization internationally.

Daniel Doe said such connection would reduce the financial burden on local partners.

He charged government officials to support the initiative to transform lives, and not leave the burden on Koijee alone. He stated that everyone should take responsibility of supporting the children in the communities.
