The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Dr. Bhofal Chambers, on Tuesday, December 6, 2021 inducted into office the newly elected Representatives of Nimba County’s district #1, Samuel Brown, and Fena Lassana, Bomi County’s district #1, following the conduct of the November 16, 2021 by-election. The two representatives were on last week certificated by the National Elections Commissions (NEC) after their victory in the by-election.
House Speaker Chambers welcomed the Nimba and Bomi counties’ newly elected representatives to the 54th Legislature. He urged representatives Brown and Lassana to be patriotic and work in the interest of the country. He underscored that the Legislature is a place where national issues are discussed in the best interest of the country and its citizens. The Speaker swore in the two new Representatives, who where later escorted to their seats assigned to their respective counties.
In brief remarks after the induction, Bomi County’s district #1 Representative, Lassana, applauded the people of Bomi, especially district #1, for providing the space for her to serve her county. She also commended the women of Bomi and women of Liberia for ensuring that her victory came true. According to her, she has come to the Legislature to work as a team in the interest of the country.
Representative Lassana disclosed that in 2015 she started her political journey and, during the election period, she was informed by her citizens that it was not her time to serve. According to her, she won the election this time around because it was the appropriate time for her to serve the people of district #1. She vowed to serve in the best interest of the people.
For his part, Representative Brown, Nimba County’s district #1, commended the people of Nimba’s district #1 for overwhelmingly voting for him in the by-election. He called on members of the Legislature to open their arms as the people of Nimba’s district #1 are willing to work with them in pushing the agenda of the country.
Brown promised the people of Nimba, especially district #1, that their concerns will remain paramount while serving them at the first branch of government. He maintained that he has come to the Legislature with a developmental spirit, that will lead to the transformation of the district. He encouraged his opponents who lost the election to join him in pushing the agenda of the district.
Brown contested two times before winning the November 16 by-election. He is replacing Jeremiah Koung, who was elected in the 2020 senatorial election as Senator for Nimba County.
