Angry citizens in Zwedru, Grand Gedeh County, believed to be supporters of the late district #1 Representative, Erol Madison Gwion, on Tuesday, December 5, 2023 set ablaze the Traditional Council’s office and damaged the home of Senator Zoe Emmanuel Pennue following the death of the district’s Representative on Tuesday.

According to sources in Grand Gedeh, some supporters of the late lawmaker are pointing accusing fingers hissister, Beatrice Gwion, who is part of the TraditionalCouncil of Grand Gedeh, for the death of the lawmaker.

Supporters of the late lawmaker are allegedly accusing his sister of putting powder on his neck during his victory celebration recently for his re-election as representative in the October 10 election.

The group also attacked Senator Pennue’s residence in Zwedru City. Senator Pennue’s residence was attacked because of his opposition to the election of the late Representative Gwion. Police has calmed down the situation with several arrest in connection to the burning of Traditional Council’s office and damaging the home of Senator Pennue.

The heartbreaking news of Representative Gwion’s passing follows his recent victory in the October 10 election, when he was re-elected to serve his district for an additional six-year term. Representative Gwion’s political journey began in earnest when he was first elected during the by-election in 2020 after the former district representative Zoe Emmanuel Pennue’s election to the Senate.

Senator Pennue preferred successor was RepresentativeSokan, but he lost to Gwion. However, Gwion’s tenure was not devoid of conflict. The county’s acting magistrate mysteriously disappeared following the 2020 election results, and remains missing.

Representative Gwion was due to be officially certified by the National Elections Commission (NEC) as the winner of the electoral district #1, Grand Gedeh County, election on Friday, December 8.
