A usually free medical service in Montserrado County’s district #4, provided by The Michael Thomas Foundation, has been extended to Shara Community; writes Ojuku Silver-tongue Kangar, Jr.

The foundation’s medical “anger” treated typhoid, malaria, sugar, pressure patients, and so on, who had gathered in the Zinnah Foundation School building.

Before the medical service by the foundation, it dispatched a team to the community to carry out an awareness. As a result, 1,600-plus patients thronged at the school building and were treated, according to Atty. Michael Thomas, the Executive and Founder of the Foundation.

The foundation’s free medical service beneficiaries stated that, since they have known themselves as residents of the community, such a humanitarian initiative has not been carried out by anyone—order than the Thomas Foundation.

“We are here because of Michael Thomas’s free medical service. We are benefiting from it,” Rachel P. Gigee said. “I got the information the day before the service, and l come to benefit.”

“It is a wonderful day for the Michael Thomas Foundation to bring free medical service here to us the old people and the young people,” Person W. Toe said.

With 32 communities in the district, the medical service is gradually meeting the people’s medical need, especially old folks.

“May God be with him to succeed for the treatment,” Oldma Mary, 74, said, appreciating the foundation.

“I have pressure and eye problem, and they have given me medicine,” James K. Gobeh, 80, said.

“l have sore on my back, but let me get the medicine first and get well,” Nancy Kamara, 79, said as she stood in the old folks’ queue and awaited for treatment.

The district is vulnerable and challenged in a number of ways. It lacks a recreational center, administrative building, public latrine, library, security, and so on.

Gradually, the foundation has begun addressing some of these challenges, but decried the financial constraint it faces to go beyond its current scope of operation.

The needs of the people in the district are the foundation’s heartbeat, Atty. Thomas has stated.

“Basically, we saw the need of the people in the district and structured a foundation. One of the pillars is to meet the health needs and social welfare of our people,” the Foundation’s Executive and Founder said. “lf you look in the district, you will see most of our old and young people [who] can’t afford to go to hospital.”
