The Director of Monrovia City Police (MCP), Thomas Garwo, who was recently in political bed with critics of the Weah administration and, particularly, his boss, Mayor Jefferson T. Koijee, has returned to Liberia, revealing damning conversations between him and the folks in the United States.

War of words recently escalated between the Mayor of Monrovia, Jefferson Tamba Koijee, and the US-based Spoon Talk panelist, including the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Spoon Network, Stanton Witherspoon, CDC regime’s first dismissed Deputy Minister, Eugene Fahngon, as well as the Chairman of the erstwhile Truth and Reconciliation Commission (TRC), Jerome Verdier, and former National Security Agency (NSA) operative, Sheikh Sackor.

Director Garwo was alleged to have been sneaked out of Monrovia to the United States to serve as a federal witness against the Weah administration for its alleged serial-like killings, uninvestigated murders, corruption and crimes against humanity.

While in the United States, Director Garwo allegedly revealed conversations between him and Mayor Koijee and provided recordings of the mayor’s alleged sinister deals.

According to information available at the time, Verdier and others had intended to use his narration to lobby for his asylum in the United States, for fear he would be harmed if he returns to Liberia.

To the highest degree of surprise, Director Garwo has resurfaced in Liberia, leaving critics to wonder about his return and the disunity factor between him and the US-based individuals. It is believed that he returned to the country on Friday, May 5, 2023, unescorted, which depicts that he was neither deported nor forced out of the U.S.

On Wednesday, May 10, 2023, Director Garwo, in a press conference organized by the legal counsel of the Monrovia City Corporation (MCC), Cllr. Arthur Johnson, opened up about his trip to the United States, revealing shocking conversations and happenings with the Witherspoon-Verdier team.

The City Police boss, who has formally returned to his city police director position, claimed that he was coerced by the Spoon Talk panelist to accuse Mayor Jefferson Koijee of crimes he knows nothing about.

He explained that he went to the United States on a program. While in the US, he said, he received a telephone call from Sheikh Sackor, and they held a friendly conversation. However, he said, Sackor brought about the story of Cllr. Gloria Musu Scott’s daughter and Varlee Telleh. According to him, he later met with Sackor, Witherspoon, Verdier, Fahngon and others, and they said they could work out things for him in the United States on the condition that he makes up creeping narratives against his boss and Mayor of Monrovia, Jefferson Koijee—that he orchestrated the Cllr. Scott daughter’s murder and used Telleh to accomplish the mission.

He alleged that Witherspoon provided US$25,000 for the gathering, and gave him an additional US$10,000 personally. He claimed that the US$25,000 was shared among them—Sackor, Verdier, Fahngon and him.

During the press statement, held at Cllr. Johnson’s law office on Carey and Center streets intersection, Director Garwo provided secretly recorded conversations between him and the folks.

In one of the audio recordings, Cllr. Verdier was overheard telling Garwo that people had advised him not to deal with him; however, the only help he could offer was to make up a story that Garwo could narrate, which he will then take to the US federal government claiming that his life is in danger under the Weah administration and apply for an asylum for him.

Meanwhile, Cllr Johnson has argued that the intent of the entire episode was to lie on the mayor for the US government to sanction him.

Critics are now of the opinion that many of the allegations of murder against the George Weah-led government is false, misleading and intended to tarnish the government’s image for selfish gains. A critic expressed shock in Cllr. Verdier, whom he said he held in high esteem, for aligning with a convicted felon, Witherspoon, and a former regime collaborator, Fahngon, to damage the image of the nation.

Fahngon, they said, previously referred to critics of the Weah government as a “cartel” that did not mean well for the country; however, he has been “brainwashed” and “belly-controlled” into joining that same “cartel” against the government.

They described the action of Witherspoon and others as unnationalistic, and called on them to desist.
