To Allegedly Twist The Will Of The People: Unity Party Accused Of Dishing Out L$400 Million In Nimba By-Election
The Youth League of the Congress for Democratic Change (CDC) has accused the Vice President of the Republic of Liberia, Jeremiah K. Koung, and the governing Unity Party (UP) of dishing out L$400 million in Nimba County to buy voter cards and persuade officials of the county in order to twist the will of the people in the upcoming by-election slated for Tuesday, April 22, 2025.
The CDC Youth League further accused Vice President Koung of conspiring with electoral magistrates at his Ganta farm to rig the outcome in candidate Samuel Kogar’s favor, but warned that they are deploying a massive resistance force throughout Nimba—including legal observers, community mobilizers and vote defenders—to protect the democracy at all costs.
According to the youth league, this is not just an election but a revolutionary stand for dignity, justice, and truth. “Your resolve is the flame of our freedom. Refuse their bribes. Reject their lies. Resist their intimidation. Stand firm and vote your conscience,” the youth league told Nimbaians.
However, the Hot Pepper is unable to confirm the allegation.
But individuals close to the Vice President have denied the allegation, and termed the CDC as a “weakling” that is afraid to even take a side in the Nimba election.
They said Vice President Koung has been deeply involved with Samuel Kogar’s campaign, but is not involved with any bribery, as claimed by the CDC Youth League.
