The collaboration of three diaspora political parties: Unity Party-Canada (UP-USA/CA), Movement for Democracy and Reconstruction-USA (MDR-USA) and Liberty Party-USA (LP-USA) chapters has condemned the election violence against peaceful partisans and supporters of the Rescue Mission, headed by Unity Party Standard Bearer, Ambassador Joseph Nyuma Boakai, on Thursday, August 10, 2023, and called on the CDC-led government of President George Weah to desist from any and all acts of violence during this election period, which have the propensity to slide the country into anarchy.

According to a release, signed by Kerper Dwanyen, Chairman of the UP-USA/CA and leader of the collaboration, “We are disheartened to see that the President himself is the engineer of the violence that occurred on August 10, 2023 around the Unity Party campaign headquarters, where several Unity Party members were wounded, with state-sponsored perpetrators evading accountability.

“We have been informed by intelligence that the strategy by CDC during this campaign is to intimidate, suppress, injure and obliterate, by any means necessary, the supporters of the Rescue Mission, which the Liberian people have invested their hopes and aspirations in for these up-coming elections. The unfolding events bear evidence to the information flowing to us.

“We are calling on all well-meaning Liberians, civil society groups, the Council of Churches and other religious organizations, the international community, to include ECOWAS, the African Union (AU), the United Nations (UN), the European Union (EU), the United States government and all partners that have invested in the peace we enjoy today, to prevail upon President Weah to protect the sacred right of Liberians and ensure that the elections are peaceful, as violations will not be tolerated.

“Liberia and the sub-region cannot be allowed to revert to anarchy driven by a leader insecure to face the mandate of its citizens.”
