WAEC Reacts To New Fees For 2024 Examination
The Liberia national office of the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has reminded school authorities across the country that the fees for its examinations have not changed, as has been alleged.
In a release issued Wednesday, November 29, 2023, the WAEC office said, “It has come to our notice that a few schools are allegedly collecting exam fees from their 12th graders and have also increased the fees of their third, sixth and ninth graders. WAEC is, therefore, calling on those involved to immediately desist or will be made to bear the full consequences as a result of their actions.”
According to the WAEC office, “The fees for the examinations are as follows: 3rd grade, L$1,000 (both public and private schools); 6th grade, L$2,000 (both public and private schools); and 9th grade, L$5,000 (private schools only). All 12th graders and public schools’ 9th graders are exempted from paying examination fees.
“The management has taken due cognizance of such alleged unwarranted and unwholesome act, and wishes to state categorically that the information is purported and should not be given credence, as those allegedly involved are doing so with the sole intent of extorting money from our already struggling parents for their personal gain.
“WAEC is also calling on parents not to pay any other exam fee to any school authority other than the fees mentioned above, as doing so will be at their detriment.
“The council once again pledges to remain a world-class examining body that conducts credible examinations in the public interest in Liberia and the subregion.”
