Sonny Massaquoi, age 38, is said to be one of few diaspora Liberians striving to bring development to his motherland with the meager resources he earns in that part of the world. With just a few years of being in the United States of America, Massaquoi is said to have invested a lot back home, and that he is currently completing his dream house worth thousands of United States dollars.

According to individuals close to Massaquoi, the young Liberian has a large cocoa farm and other initiatives in Liberia.

In an interview with the Hot Pepper about the driving force behind his development initiatives back home, Massaquoi said he believes only Liberians can develop Liberia. He said his development back home is his way of contributing his quota to the motherland.

According to him, other nationals around the world do not rely on their governments to do all for the growth and development of the country; instead, they shoulder the responsibility of building decent homes to give their countries a facelift.

Massaquoi maintained that the upliftment of Liberia is in the hands of the diaspora Liberians. “Poor people can’t develop a country. Only those of us who are here will make Liberia a nation second to none,” he indicated. He urged Liberians to work on their mindset, as the mindset is the engine that gets life moving.

“I believe that we are here to provide solutions to national issues confronting Liberia’s forward march. We need to invest more in Liberia because we have the capacity to develop it to the level we want it to be,” he added.
