YAI Makes Donation In Medical Supplies To Clinics, Hospitals
The Executive Director of Youth Action International (YAI), Dr. Kimmie Weeks, has turned over a huge consignment of medical supplies to three health facilities. The donations were made recently at the organization’s head office on Du-Port Road, Paynesville, outside Monrovia and were received by officials from the Benson Hospital, the Du-Port Road Health Center and the Alfred F. Medical Clinic.
Speaking at the official turning-over ceremony, Dr. Weeks noted that the donations were being made as part of the organization’s on-going effort to support the Government of Liberia (GoL) pro-poor agenda for improvement of health-care delivery in Liberia. He recalled that during the Covid-19 outbreak YAI had initiated a program to provide medical and non-medical supplies to various hospitals and healthcare centers, and that t these donations were part of the effort.
“We recognize the sacrifices that healthcare workers make every day. We have chosen these three health centers to be amongst our first beneficiaries because they are institutions working to serve some of the most financially disadvantaged people,” said Dr. Weeks. He went on to acknowledge the support of several organizations and individuals who had been instrumental in providing and airlifting the drugs to Liberia, especially the US-based organization Make It Rain, which had helped to arrange the medications. He also thanked the Burt Family Foundation, the Wolff Companies and S. Young for the supporting role they had played.
Each of the companies who received the medication thanked YAI for its kind gesture and stated that they were both thankful and overwhelmed by the generosity of the donation.
YAI is an organization established by Dr. Weeks in 2006 to provide education, healthcare and economic empowerment for children and young people in postwar African countries. Since its establishment the organization’s work has benefited over 200,000 people in Burundi, Liberia, Rwanda, Sierra Leone and Uganda.
