As tension continues to build up on Capitol Hill regarding the removal of Speaker Fonati Koffa, authorities of the Liberia National Police (LNP) has been warned to be neutral in the performance of their duties.
The call was made on Thursday by the Speaker of the House of Representatives, J. Fonati Koffa, who expressed frustration over the manner in which some officers of the Liberia National Police (LNP) are proceeding in the House crisis.

He revealed that officers of the Liberia National Police (LNP) are state security and, as such, should be in the interest of every Liberian, and not a few group of people.

The Speaker’s statement came due to Tuesday’s and, again, Thursday’s brutality by police officer against people believed to be supporters of pro-Koffa lawmakers.

Expressing his dissatisfaction to LNP Deputy for Operation, Nelson Freeman, Speaker Koffa said the issue at the House of Representatives is an internal crisis and should only be solved by them, and not members of the Executive branch as things are now unfolding.

He also informed the deputy that if the officers of the Liberia National Police (LNP) want to take side, then there is no need for their presence at the Capitol Building, which is the home of the House of Representatives, as the Capitol is for every Liberian.

The Speaker at the same time cautioned officers of the Liberia National Police (LNP) to uphold the law for the betterment of the country.

Tuesday Liberians witnessed the brutalizing of peaceful Liberians by some officers of the Liberia National Police (LNP). Thursday, again, was another scene of brutality, leaving the Speaker with no alternative but to engage authorities of the Liberia National Police (LNP) on the matter.

The issue of the Speaker’s removal, which has gone a month now, is threatening the growth and development of the country, and the big question is whether or not the Speaker will resign.
