The Executive Chairperson of the Liberia Anti-Corruption Commission (LACC), Cllr. Edwin Kla Martin, has warned of stiff action against any anti-corruption professional who involves himself in the politics of the country.
Cllr. Martin reminded staff of the institution of their responsibility to continue to fight only corruption and not to get involved in politics. He said as the election season draws closer, the employees should maintain their independence in appearance and in fact.
The Chairperson was speaking as he kicked off a training for UNDP-supported corruption-reporting officers who will be deployed in various counties.
Cllr. Martin told the Corruption Reporting Associates that he expects them to be professional, civil and discipline in their interaction with communities they will be working in.
He said the LACC expects the one dozen recruits to understand the tradition of the community, government financial policies and ensure that government and other donor projects are monitored for credible implementation.
Cllr. Martin reiterated that Corruption Reporting Associates should avoid doing their working through Facebook and other media outlets. He said anti-corruption officers are requested to report through a channel that has been established under the project through multiple stakeholders.
The anti-corruption associates were recruited through support from the UNDP under a three-phase project that provides electronic gadgets that can be used to report incidents of corruption across the country.
