Prince Jallah, a medical practitioner who is closely following the biometric voter registration process, has called on the National Elections Commission (NEC) to provide generators at voter registration centers due to the shortage of electricity, which he said is slowing the pace of the registration process.

According to Jallah, he observed in a number of centers that the electricity situation is not stable; as such, providing generators for the centers will help move the process faster, noting that the biometric system is designed to fast-track the process and not for people to stand in queues all day waiting for the phone being used to charge. He expressed dismay in the way the old people and pregnant women are delayed due to the lack of electricity.

Meanwhile, Jallah is calling on the youth who are causing problem for the temporary BVR staffs to desist from their action. He also called on the government to come down hard on individuals who go about misbehaving at polling centers, urging that they be fined US$50 or sent to jail for three months.

Jallah stated that many Liberians are willing to register, but because of these and several other challenges at the registration centers they are feeling reluctant.

Furthermore, Jallah called on all citizens to register because the country depends on everybody—old or young—to make the right decision at the polls.
