The Rescue Mission First-Time Voters, a group of young Liberians supporting the presidential bid of Joseph Boakai and Jeremiah Koung, has, with immediate effect, revoked their membership and withdrawn their support from the Rescue Mission and Ambassador Boakai.

In a press release issued Tuesday, October 31, 2023, the group said, “Following our establishment, over 205 foot-soldiers went all in the trenches, schools, mosques and churches and recruited first-time and middle-aged voters for Ambassador Joseph N. Boakai using our own resources, time and energy.”

However, the release said, the effort and commitment of the group over months have never been appreciated or even respected by the national leadership of the Unity Party and its national campaign team, even though following countless attention-seeking texts and signals.

“With these and many other reasons, coupled with the sense of entitlement and disregard from the hierarchy of the Unity Party, as recruiters of the over 1,000 exuberant young people we are hereby suspending our previous support to Ambassador Joseph N. Boakai and Jeremiah Koung of the Rescue Team,” the release observed.

The release, signed by the group’s Secretary General, Mohammed S. Keita, and Chairman, Alex Varney Williams, added that, following tense and frantic consultation between the group and the Coalition for Democratic Change (CDC), they have reached a convincing conclusion to pledge their unwavering support to the re-election of President George M. Weah and Vice President Jewel Howard-Taylor.

“Our declaration of support to the CDC is backed by the several developmental initiatives being carried out by the CDC-led government and President Weah’s profound thirst of making Liberia a better country in the sub-region.

“We are hereby mandating our 205 cells leaders and over 1,000 members to go all out to canvass for the re-election of President Weah and VP Taylor. We shall, going forward, move across Montserrado to recruit, mobilize and convince thousands of first-time voters for President Weah and VP Taylor’s re-election,” the release noted.
