The National Elections Commission (NEC) has certificated two more winners of the special senatorial elections in Maryland and Grand Kru counties and the winner of the district #9 representative by-election in Montserrado County. The two senators certificated Monday were James Pobee Biney, Coalition for Democratic Change (CDC), Maryland County, and Numene T.H. Bartekwa, independent candidate, Grand Kru County, and Representative Frank Saah Foko, Coalition for Democratic Change, (CDC), district #9, Montserrado County.
At the certification souvenir program on Monday, March 8, 2021 in the James M. Fromayan Conference Hall, NEC, was the Chairperson of the Commission, Davidetta Browne Lansanah, along with the Co-Chairperson, Cllr. P. Teplah Reeves, and Commissioners Boakai A. Dukuly, Cllr. Ernestine Morgan Awar, Floyd Oxley Sayor and Barsee Leo Kpangkai.
In her statement, the Chairperson of NEC, Davidetta Browne Lansanah, assured Liberians that as soon as the election dispute cases are adjudicated the winners will be certificated without any delay.
In separate remarks, Senator James Biney, speaking on behalf of Senator Numene Bartekwa, said there was an urgent need for the National Elections Commission (NEC) to be further capacitated by allowing the Commission to control its own budget and the need for electoral law reform.
For his part, district #9 Representative, Frank Saah Foko, called for reconciliation and unity within district #9, beginning with all his opponents who did not win, including his nearest opponent, Fobies Henries.
The three lawmakers praised the Commission for conducting the December 8, 2020 special senatorial elections in a free, fair and transparent manner, despite the legal challenges.
