Liberia and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia have pledged to strengthen cooperation in the maritime sector following high-level talks on the sidelines of the 8th Conference of the Association of African Maritime Administrations (AAMA), currently taking place in Monrovia.

The Saudi delegation, led by H.E. Egn. Essam Al Ammari, Deputy for Maritime Transport at the Transport General Authority, held discussions with Cllr. Neto Zarzar Lighe Sr., Commissioner/CEO of the Liberia Maritime Authority (LiMA), on Tuesday, September 30, 2025, at the Authority’s corporate headquarters.

Eng. Al Ammari highlighted Saudi Arabia’s keen interest in drawing on Liberia’s “wealth of experience and enriched maritime history”, acknowledging the West African nation’s reputation as a leading maritime state.

Commissioner/CEO Lighe emphasized the importance of prioritizing capacity-building initiatives, particularly opportunities for Liberian seafarers, as a key area of cooperation between the two nations.

Both parties agreed to establish a joint technical team to develop a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU).

The meeting underscores Liberia’s on-going efforts to expand its maritime partnerships globally, strengthening growth through knowledge-sharing and international collaboration.
