LINLEA Begins Criminal Justice Administration Reform Seminar
The Liberia National Law Enforcement Association (LINLEA), in collaboration with the Center for Criminal Justice Research and Education, has begun a five-day seminar on criminal justice administration reform at the auditorium of the University of Liberia.
According to the President of LINLEA, Col. Dr. Cecil B. Griffiths, the seminar will focus on Liberia’s criminal justice system’s structures, processes and challenges, the state of security sector reform governance in the country, and the accountability and oversight of institutions to strengthen the security sector in Liberia.
He noted that technology and innovation capacities will go a long way to enhance the security system in the digitalization world, and that the criminal justice administration reform seminar will help to transformation the justice system in Liberia in the near future.
Meanwhile, the Head of the European Union (EU) Delegation to Liberia, Ambassador Nona Deprez, said the EU recognizes the remarkable progress that Liberia has made in the security sector since the end of the civil conflict.
Ambassador Deprez stated that the establishment of professional security forces, efforts to improve accountability, and the emphasis on human rights have all contributed to creating a security environment that is perceived as more legitimate and trustworthy by the Liberian people.
She pointed out that EU commends these efforts and reaffirms its commitment to supporting Liberia in consolidating these gains.
She maintained that, however, the security sector and administrative justice reforms are on-going processes which need constant attention, adaption and resources to respond effectively.
Ambassador Deprez underscored that no single actor, government, donor or NGO can achieve the transformation of the sector alone, but with collaboration and true partnerships Liberia can address the old and emerging challenges in the sector.
The seminar brings together security personnels from the Army Forces of Liberia (AFL), Liberia National Police (LNP), National Port Authority (NPA), Liberia Immigration Service (LIS), Liberia National Fire Service (LNFS), Custom and Excise Service, among others.
