THE INTERNAL STRUGGLE at the Collaborating Political Parties (CPP) has Liberians wondering whether this major opposition bloc will successfully field a candidate who can take on President George Manneh Weah in national elections two years from now. The two foremost CPP candidates of course are former Vice President Joseph Nyumah Boakai, Unity Party (UP), and the Standard Bearer of the Alternative National Congress (ANC), Alexander Benedict Cummings. Former Vice President Boakai is clear that has no intention of returning to the ballot ticket as a vice presidential candidate, which places ANC’s Political Leader in the position of “backing off”.

MEMBERS OF THE collaboration are nodding to the political inclination of former Vice President Boakai. Montserrado County’s electoral district #3 Representative, Ceebee C.D. Barshell, is one of them. The CPP member has said that another agreement out of the Collaborating Political Parties (CPP) that tries to deny former Vice President, Joseph N. Boakai, from heading the CPP ticket come 2023’s presidential and general elections will be a fiasco, and they should count him out of the entire process. the trend of events seem to be moving in the direction of Boakai or no CPP-fielded candidate.

THE MONTSERRADO COUNTY district #1 representative argued that former Vice President Ambassador Joseph Nyumah Boakai possesses all of the qualities to head the ticket of the CPP come the 2023 presidential and general elections. According to him, economically the country is at the crossroads, and needs a leader like former Vice President Joseph N. Boakai to redeem it from the current state of affairs. Representative Barshell therefore used the occasion to call on members of the CPP to see reason to allow Ambassador Boakai head the CPP ticket come 2023’s elections.

REPRESENTATIVE BARSHELL, IN fostering the Boakai agenda, drew strength from his Unity Party membership in the CPP. The UP lawmaker observed that amongst the four political parties they are the largest political party with a high numerical strength to pull the votes, and that it should not be an argument in the public amongst Liberians whether the Unity Party is the biggest party amongst the four collaborating political parties.
