The County Inspector for Nimba, B. Mac Gblinwon, has recognized ArcelorMittal Liberia as a true partner and called on the citizens to help protect the company’s investment.

Inspector Gblinwon, speaking at a one-day AML Phase-II expansion project community awareness in Ganta, stated that Mount Nimba, which belongs to the people and the government, has become beneficial to the entire nation.

He acknowledged AML’s role as a true partner that is always ready to get involved with key community development initiatives.

“This is why Nimba continues to benefit more from the allocations amongst the three affected counties (Bassa, Bong and Grand Bassa),” he stated.

The county inspector said, “We appreciate Mittal, for example, for the support to our county team, but we are calling on AML to increase Nimba’s support from the initial as per the allocation in the County Social Development Fund.

“It is good that others, like Women Empowerment Forum Liberia, from the civil society will decide to come and educate all of us as per the activities and benefits of AML phase-II expansion,” he said.

According to Inspector Gblinwon, he believes that if government-appointed officials were to carry the message about AML’s development initiatives to the people, the public would have said that “we have been bought.

“We are very grateful to Women Empowerment Forum Liberia (WEFL) for this wonderful awareness,” Gblinwon said. “As you can see the cap on my head, the just-ended Nimba County Inter-Electoral League was sponsored by AML with caps, T-shirts, etc.”

In another development, the County Inspector announced the construction of a modern office complex in Sanniquellie for people with disability, with funding from ArcelorMittal’s County Social Development Fund.

Also speaking at the event was Nimba County Chapter Civil Society Organization’s Secretary General, who appreciated AML for allowing a civil society organization based in Nimba to carry out the awareness.

“These are some of the interventions we want to see coming forth from Mittal. Get the civil society organizations of the affected counties involved in all your activities as a way of strengthening the partnership,” the secretary general said.

The Secretary General of the disabled community of Nimba, Gabriel Sow, the President of Gompa City Concerned Women, Musu Kardame, the student community and youth leaders made remarks at the AML phase-two information-sharing dialogue.

Laura Bee Kiekpo, Executive Director of Women Empowerment Forum Liberia (WEFL), appreciated everyone for the successful interaction, promising to move into Sanniquellie, Gbapa, Karnplay and Yekepa very soon.
