AFL Candidate Dies During Fitness Test

The headquarters of the Armed Forces of Liberia (AFL) has disclosed the passing of a male candidate who was in the screening process of the AFL 2022 recruitment drive for the Western Region (Grand Cape Mount, Gbarpolu, and Bomi Counties), conducted in Tubmanburg, Bomi County.

   According to a Ministry of National Defense release issued Friday, February 18, 2022, the unfortunate incident occurred on Wednesday, February 16, 2022 during the Initial Physical Fitness Test (IPFT) exercises. “The deceased collapsed during the 1.5-mile run and was given first aid care by members of the AFL Medical Team assigned with the Recruitment Team, and rushed to the Bomi Government Hospital,” the release noted.

   He was pronounced dead after many attempts to revive him by medical staff at the Bomi Government Hospital failed. The family/next of kin of the deceased was immediately contacted.

   “The Ministry of National Defense and the Armed Forces of Liberia regret this sad incident, and wish to encourage the family that their son lost his life for a noble cause.

   “He was a patriot who volunteered to join the AFL in service to his country, Liberia. 

   “The Honorable Minister of Defense and the Chief of Staff of the Armed Forces of Liberia (AFL) extend to the family of the deceased their deepest sympathy in this great loss,” the release stated.
