ArcelorMittal Liberia has been recognized and presented four awards by the Liberia Revenue Authority (LRA) for being a top contributor to government’s revenue for the period 2022—2023.

The company was celebrated for its outstanding contributions to the nation’s economy, being recognized as the “Highest Contributor Overall for 2022” and the “Second Highest Contributor Overall for 2023”. Additionally, ArcelorMittal Liberia was awarded the title of “Highest Custom Duty Paying Concessionaire for both 2022 and 2023”, underscoring its significant role in the country’s revenue generation.

Presented during the Liberia Revenue Authority (LRA)’s annual Taxpayers Appreciation & Awards ceremony, held over the weekend in Monrovia, the awards demonstrate ArcelorMittal Liberia’s commitment to fiscal responsibility and national development.

This year’s accolades mark a continuation of AML’s impressive track record, having previously received the Gold Award for the highest taxpayer for three consecutive years. The company’s consistent performance in tax compliance and contributions has solidified its reputation as a leading corporate citizen in Liberia.

During the awards ceremony, LRA officials commended ArcelorMittal Liberia for its exemplary tax payment practices and its vital contributions to the national treasury. The awards serve not only as a recognition of the company’s financial contributions but also as an encouragement for other businesses to prioritize tax compliance and support the country’s economic growth.

AML’s Head of Sustainability and External Relations, Marcus S. Wleh and Finance Manager, Dorbor Kpangbala, received the awards on behalf of the management.

In a brief statement, Wleh thanked the government for the enabling environment it continues to provide for businesses to thrive, noting that without that it would be difficult for businesses to generate revenue to pay the taxes they are contributing to the country’s revenue envelope.

“I believe that without that enabling environment it will be difficult for us to do the work that we do to pay the taxes that we pay,” he said.

He thanked the people of Liberia, including host communities for the support, while also appreciating the workforce for its contribution to the business.

The LRA’s annual Taxpayers Appreciation & Awards Dinner recognizes and celebrates the efforts of businesses and individuals who contribute significantly to the nation’s revenue.

As Liberia continues to navigate its economic challenges, the recognition of companies like ArcelorMittal Liberia highlights the importance of corporate responsibility and the role of the private sector in supporting national development initiatives.
