The Chief Executive Officer of the Bukonjadeh Group of Companies has alarmed over the prolonged leadership struggle at the House of Representatives at the Capitol Building.

Elton Johns stated that it is unfortunate for Liberia to see members of the House of Representatives of the 55th Legislature engaging into violence for the Speakership position and promoting bad images of Liberia to the rest of the world.

Johns made the assertion recently when a delegation from ECOWAS tried to intervene in the situation prevailing at the House of Representatives.

He noted that if the power struggle continues at the House of Representatives for much longer than one month it may lead to the shutting down of the government, which will not be a good thing for the people and the country.

According to him, “Our representatives were not elected to seek their personal interest but the interest of the people and the nation, and now the ‘majority block’ and ‘minority block’ are undermining the progress and development of the nation.”

Johns underscored that the interest of Liberia and its people should be prioritized, and not that of any individual or group, noting that Liberia and its people have suffered too long from power struggle.
At the same time, the Bukonjadeh boss expressed serious disappointment with the level of violent behavior of some Liberian youths across the country.

He lamented that the youth of Liberia should not allow politicians to use them for their selfish gain, but they should desist from violence of any form to ensure that peace is maintained in the country.
According to him, the peace and stability of Liberia is crucial for the socio-economic development of the people, “and if investments and investors should run to the country it will depend on the level of peace and stability we maintain in the nation”.

Johns emphasized that Liberia is the only country for Liberians, “so let peace prevail. No matter the situation confronting us as a people, we should exercise restraint.”
