The management of the Bukonjadeh Group of Companies has commended President Joseph Nyuma Boakai for taking prompt action to suspend government officials for alleged corruption.

According to the Chief Executive Officer of Bukonjadeh Elton Johns, allegation of corruption is a grave concern to the Liberian people, and if public officials are engaged in corrupt acts they should be dismissed and prosecuted.

He noted that sending alleged corrupt government officials to the Liberia Anti-Corruption Commission (LACC) for further investigation is necessary, however, it is taking long time for a single suspended official to be dismissed and prosecuted.

Johns made the commendation Thursday in Monrovia as the Liberian Leader suspended some of his officials for allegation of corruption in their respective institutions.

He noted that these alleged corrupt officials do not care for the welfare of the Liberian people, but are instead focused on stealing public funds.

He said dismissing and prosecuting alleged corrupt government officials will go a long way in deterring others from engaging in acts of corruption in government ministries and agencies.

He maintained that President Boakai is heading in the right direction in fighting corruption in Liberia, as compared to past governments which refused to take action against alleged corrupt officials during their administrations.

Johns lamented that corruption has undermined the growth and developments of Liberia over the years, which has made Liberia an underdeveloped nation—while her neighbors rapidly develop.

He underscored the need for Liberians to rally around  President Boakai’s administration to fight corruption in the country, pointing out that the fight against corruption should be the duty of every Liberian—if Liberia’s development and transformation are to be realized in the near future.

He underscored that it is about time for those who are given the mandate to serve in public office not use public funding to enrich themselves at the expense of the masses.

Johns emphasized that government’s work is intended to serve the people, and not to steal the people’s money, which is wrong and harmful for the growth and development of the country. He called on people to desist from corruption.

According to him, suspension of officials such as the Director General of the Bureau of State Enterprises, Arthur S. Massaquoi; Director General of the Liberia Agricultural Commodity Regulatory Authority (LACRA), Christopher D. Sankolo; and Deputy Director General for Administration and Finance, Chea B. Garley, among others, is a clear demonstration of President Boakai’s commitment to fight corruption in Liberia.
