The Chinese Embassy in Liberia on February 13, 2026 held 2026 Chinese New Year Reception. Over 300 people attended the reception, including the Vice President of Liberia, Jeremiah Kpan Koung, and Representative Richard Nagbe Koon, Speaker of the House of Representatives, other dignitaries and people from all walks of life, and representatives of Chinese enterprises, institutions and overseas Chinese in Liberia.

In his opening remarks, Ambassador Yin Chengwu reviewed the achievements of Chinese economic and social development and China-Liberia relations in 2025, and introduced Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi’s visit to Africa in 2026.

In 2025, the China-Liberia strategic partnership has been thriving. Under the strategic guidance of President Xi Jinping and President Joseph Nyuma Boakai, strategic mutual trust between China and Liberia has been further consolidated, practical cooperation has been steadily deepened, people-to-people exchanges have grown ever closer, and cooperation across various fields have continued to expand. For example, President Xi and President Boakai have maintained close communications through various channels. Vice President Koung, Speaker Koon, and Pro Tempore Lawrence paid successful visits to China respectively. China supported Liberia’s candidacy for the UN Security Council as a non-permanent member, fully implemented the zero-tariff treatment for 100 percent of Liberian products. According to China Customs statistics, Liberia’s exports to China increased by 23.9%, reaching US$131 million. The Liberian side has consistently adhered to the one-China principle, which is highly appreciated. The building of the two overpass bridges on Tubman Boulevard and the National Clinical Diagnosis and Treatment Laboratory at the 14 Military Hospital are in full swing. The Bamboo and Rattan Project is progressing well. The LBS Project has been completed and is about to be handed over.

He stated that the year 2026 is the 70th anniversary of the start of diplomatic relations between China and Africa, as well as “the China-Africa Year of People-to-People Exchanges”, and that China is willing to work with Liberia to actively implement the important consensus reached by the two heads of state, strengthen people-to-people exchanges between China and Liberia and join hands to create an even better future.

This reflects a heartfelt inheritance of China-Africa friendship and a strong signal of China and Africa joining hands to move towards the building of the all-weather China-Africa community with a shared future for the new era.

According to him, the year 2026 marks new hope for China-Liberia relations. As is well known, China will continue to serve as an engine of global economic growth, and is also willing to act as a catalyst for Africa’s development and revitalization. Against this backdrop, China will earnestly implement the important consensus reached by the two heads of state, strengthen the alignment between China’s 15th Five-Year Plan and Liberia’s ARREST Agenda. “We hope this will deliver more tangible benefits and lift the China–Liberia strategic partnership to new heights,” Ambassador Yin Chengwu stated.

He said the year 2026 marks the China-Africa Year of People-to-People Exchanges, as was jointly agreed upon by President Xi Jinping and African leaders during the Beijing Summit of the FOCAC in 2024. During the recent visit, FM Wang Yi and African leaders launched the China-Africa Year of People-to-People Exchanges, President Xi sent a congratulatory letter to the launching ceremony. It is announced that there will be about 600 activities between China and Africa in the whole year. The amicable ties between the two peoples serve as the bedrock for the growth of China-Africa relations. With over 2.8 billion people in China and Africa pooling their hearts, minds and strengths, a more enduring driving force will be injected into China-Africa relations.

“China will work with Liberia to carry out a series of activities, so as to further enhance friendship between our two peoples. As part of the activities, and also to celebrate my embassy’s surpassing 10K followers on Facebook, we have specially invited 10 lucky followers to join us today. I hope our followers will contribute more to China-Liberia friendship.

“Over the past year, Chinese citizens in Liberia worked diligently and supported each other, achieving new successes in all sectors. They made positive contributions to promoting the development of China-Liberia relations and practical cooperation, and enhancing people-to-people exchanges, demonstrating a strong sense of patriotism and responsibility.

“I would also extend my heartfelt thanks for their contributions to China-Liberia relations! As always, the embassy will uphold the principle of putting people first, practice ‘diplomacy for the people’, and do its utmost to safeguard the legitimate rights and interests of Chinese citizens in Liberia. We hope everyone will take care of their health and safety, abide by the law and regulations, fulfill the social responsibilities, and continue to write a brilliant story of unity, friendship, and enterprising in Liberia.”

Vice President Jeremiah Kpan Koung, speaking, extended new year wishes to the Chinese government and people.

He spoke highly of China’s development achievements, expressed gratitude for China’s contributions to Liberia’s economic and social development, and looked forward to further strengthening practical cooperation between Liberia and China.
