A high-level delegation led by the Commissioner of the Liberia Maritime Authority (LiMA), Cllr. Neto Zarzar Lighe Sr., has held talks with Egypt’s Ambassador to Liberia, Ahmed Abdelazeem Farghaly, on strengthening maritime cooperation.

The meeting took place at the Egyptian Embassy near Monrovia on Tuesday, and focused on building a structured framework for collaboration, drawing on Egypt’s maritime expertise and Liberia’s position as the world’s leading flag state by deadweight tonnage.

Ambassador Farghaly underscored the importance of both countries in global trade. He called for closer cooperation in maritime governance, security, and technical development, and welcomed the Liberian delegation.

Commissioner Lighe said LiMA is ready to work with Egypt, describing it as a “maritime giant”. He added that Liberia is keen to benefit from Egypt’s infrastructure and training institutions to strengthen its operations.

Key areas of cooperation include a potential partnership linked to the Suez Canal, expanded bilateral engagement, as well as technical assistance and capacity building.

The collaborative agreement is expected to include other areas such as port services, economic zones, safety and security of vessels.

The talks reflect Liberia’s on-going efforts to strengthen its maritime capabilities through strategic international partnerships, particularly with countries managing critical global shipping routes.
