A high-level Defense Ministry delegation, constituted by the Minister of National Defense, Brg. Gen Geraldine Janet George (Rtd.), has entered Maryland County, holding strategic engagements with the local government authorities there.
Minister George’s move is in honor of a directive by the President and Commander-In-Chief of the Armed Forces of Liberia, Joseph N. Boakai, mandating the defense boss to identify all parcels of land owned by the Armed Forces of Liberia (AFL) across the country and submit plans for rehabilitation and construction of military barracks.
According to the Defense Ministry, these efforts are aligned with President Boakai’s vision to recruit about six hundred Liberians annually to be enlisted into the armed forces and provide decent accommodation and living standards for them.
The delegation in Maryland County comprises of Assistant Defense Minister for Coast Guard Affairs, Richard B. Kamara; Assistant Defense Minister for Civil Works, Kesselly K. Zinnah; Assistant Defense Minister for Public Affairs, Oscar F. Mulbah; Assistant Chief of Staff for Logistics, Lt. Col. Kortu; Engineering Commander, Ltc Kokulo; and Acting Coast Guard Commander, LCRD Kansuah
Representing the county’s authority were Maryland County Superintendent, Henry Cole; Harper City Mayor, Abraham Jackson, and the Land Commissioner, Jonah Wreh Segbe.
