River Gee County’s district #3 Representative, Francis S. Dopoh, has asked the indulgence of the plenary of the House of Representatives to invite the Managing  Director of the Forest Development Authority (FDA), Land Rights Authority and the leadership of the Community Forest Development Committees to answer on the management of forests in Liberia.

According to the River Gee County lawmaker, the  forests, which are owned by the Liberian people, are becoming a curse to them.

“They are not getting the required benefits and support as intended in the management of the forest benefit funds,” Representative Dopoh’s communication to plenary read.

In furtherance, Representative Dopoh’s communication asserted that most of the forest communities have not been assigned community forest status, lest to mention obtaining benefits from the conversation program.

“Today as we speak, though River Gee County is blessed with many forests and other bountiful resources, River Gee has its people living in poverty and are heavily relying on the scarce resources of the government. This presents a picture that our forests are becoming a curse than a blessing to our people,” the lawmaker’s communication stated.

A motion was proffered by Grand Bassa County’s district #4 Representative, Vincent S.T Willie, that the Managing Director of FDA, the leadership of the Land Rights Authority and the leadership of the Community Forest Development Committees appear on Tuesday, March 1, 2022 to answer to the plenary.
