Freedom Bakeries, a signature relief assistance project helping to feed thousands of the world’s people suffering from poverty and hunger, has been established in Liberia. The bakery is an American humanitarian organization providing assistance through pharmaceutical relief, educational aid, water and other essential human needs in poor countries.

Freedom bakeries’ flagship feeding program, which provides food supplies, has reached many impoverished countries of the world suffering from war, disaster and famine, to include the countries like Peru, Palestine, Egypt and Yemen.

Amidst a reported food security crisis in Liberia, like many third world countries but specifically due to Liberia’s low agricultural productivity and the country’s huge dependence on importation of its staple, rice, Freedom Bakeries has come to Liberia through the auspices of a collaborative partnership with the Sheikh Kafumba Konneh Foundation For Peace, Inc., a faith-based non-governmental organization founded and legally established under the corporate and business laws of the Republic of Liberia and the United States of America.

The foundation was established in 2016 in memory of the late Sheikh Kafumba Konneh, Chairman of the National Muslim Council of Liberia, who selflessly committed his entire life to fostering peace and unity and caring for the poor in Liberia.

The Sheikh Kafumba Konneh Foundation has been involved in creating an enabling environment for everyone to be, and feel, a part of society, and everyone is their brother’s keeper.

In furtherance of the organizational objective, the foundation entered in the partnership arrangement with the Freedom Bakeries and initiated a massive feeding program in March 2023.

The initiative, jointly carried out by the both organizations, is geared towards assisting local government efforts in helping the poor and needy under the banner, “Ending Hunger Together”. Under this arrangement, the Sheikh Kafumba Konneh Foundation distributes one hundred loaves of toast bread to one hundred homes across Monrovia and surrounding communities daily.

Moreover, the foundation has always been there for local Liberian families, providing variety of help services, ranging from its school scholarship program for poor and needy children, small business loan for single mothers and women in need to that of its annual Ramadan donation to fasting Muslims across the country, as well as the end-of-year supplies for hospitals and boarding homes for orphans, in an effort to keep a happy and friendly community of people irrespective of their differences.

In reaction to the coming of Freedom Bakeries to Liberia, the Chief Executive Officer of the Sheikh Kafumba Konneh Foundation for Peace Inc., Maseba Konneh-Dukuly, expressed joy and delight at the partnership with Liberia through her organization. She recounted the smiles and relief on the faces of receiving families benefitting from the “Ending Hunger Together” feeding initiative as a physical testament of how significant the presence of Freedom Bakeries is to Liberia. She was thankful to the proprietor of Freedom Bakeries and its local office in Liberia for the confidence reposed in the Sheikh Kafumba Konneh Foundation. “The impact is huge, and we will be glad to have more as the needs out there are massive enough,” she added.

The feeding program provides a total of 8,400 loaves of toast bread to deserving families, and counting.
