The Government of Liberia (GOL), through the Ministry of Information, Cultural Affairs and Tourism (MICAT), has assured the Liberian media of upholding the Freedom of Information, the Table Maintain Declaration and the Freedom of Information Law in the country.

Speaking at the official celebration of World Radio Day in Tubmanburg, Bomi County, the Director of Press and Public Affairs, Ministry of Information, Cultural Affairs and Tourism, who represented MICAT, Lawrence M. Fahnbulleh, assured the media that under the administration of President Joseph Nyuma Boakai press freedom will be upheld to the fullest.

According to Director Fahnbulleh, radio is a century of information, entertainment and education, and should be listened to, but urged those who use the radio to put out lies and falsehood against public officials and ordinary citizens to desist.

Director Fahnbulleh further said that this year’s World Radio Day is worth reflecting on. “At this special and pivotal point in its century-long journey, the government invites the global radio industry in all its many forms—commercial, public and non-profit—to join in this global world to celebrate World Radio Day,” he stated.
