The plenary of the House of Representatives has passed into law “An Act Seeking to Establish PYJ Polytechnic University”, granting it a full degree university charter. The plenary’s decision was reached on Tuesday, September 6, 2022 during session, following a report from its Committees on Education, Ways, Means & Finance, Development Planning and Judiciary, recommending the passage of the act.

The proposed act seeking to create the PYJ Polytechnic University was submitted to the House by Nimba County district#9, #4 and #6 Representatives, Johnson Gwaikolo, Gonpue Kargon and Dorwohn T. Gleekia.

In the lawmakers’ communication, they emphasized that the Institution has met the requirements of the National Commission on Higher Education, for which it was granted an operational permit. The university is currently providing programs in various disciplines.

The bill to incorporate the university and grant it a charter will provide the opportunity for the institution to establish colleges that can take on expanded roles to diversify, increase and improve the academic program options available to suit the students’ career path.

The campus of the university is located in Ganta, Nimba County. The academic buildings are equipped with twenty first century facilities for a conducive learning environment.

Members of House overwhelmingly voted to pass the act following a motion from Sinoe County Representative, Samson Q. Wiah. Immediately after voting, a motion of reconsideration was filed by Representative Dorhwon T. Gleekia, Nimba County. The motion is expected to be tried in 72 hours in accordance with the House’s rules.
