LAPS Boss: “2022 Our Year Of Quality Control System For Psychosocial Workers”

Trauma or stress is one of the major factors affecting almost everyone now in contemporary society.

   The Executive Director of the Liberia Association of Psychosocial Service (LAPS), an institution established in Liberia to address psychosocial issues, Seidu Swaray, has disclosed a plan by his institution to provide quality service control system to the public in 2022.

   He said LAPS believes quality control system for psychosocial workers in Liberia is cardinal for the forward march of the country’s health system.

    Swaray, who has been in the vanguard for years advocating for support to Liberia’s health sector and other local and international issues, said he wants psychosocial workers in Liberia well trained in the discharge of their official duties. His statement is predicated upon the proliferation of psychosocial organizations. LAPS boss said it is good to have many psychosocial groups in the country, but what is needed is quality service to the public. He stated that this year LAP will champion the cause of improving its psychosocial service to individuals and organizations during psychosocial counseling to the public.

   According to him, psychosoical issues are issues that undermine the potential of any growing nation, with Liberia no exception.

    LAPS Executive Director disclosed that he wants the Government of Liberia (GOL) to add psychosocial counseling to all public health facilitates in the country, as it will help support the already challenged health system.

  In achieving this recommendation, he said this concept will be called bio-psychosocial modus, which means that treating the patient’s mind before the physical body will enable the treatment to work quickly in the body. The LAPS boss noted that this is happening to many people in Liberia today.

   According to him, the mindset has to be free from trauma or stress for the dream of the future to be realized.

   Swaray said if only the health sector of Liberia can give attention to his advice more people will be free from psychosocial matters.

   He used the Hot Pepper to applaud LAPS’ partners for the level of contribution made to achieve its objectives in 2021.

   The LAP boss described the year 2021 as an achievement year. Even though he also commented on some challenges confronting the workings of LAP, he said they were able to increase expansion abroad.

   He stated that the organization’s reputation has improved in their project communities.
