The Managing Director of the Forestry Development Authority (FDA), Rudolph J. Merab Sr., and his Deputy Managing Director for Conservation, Community and Carbon, Nora Bowier, are part of the high-level government delegation in London, United Kingdom (UK) attending a two-day international conference on forest governance, market and climate (FGMC).
The Forum, organized by the Government of the United Kingdom through its international development program, is being held from April 14–15, 2026, and convenes global stakeholders to advance discussions on forest governance, climate policy, and sustainable financing systems.
Managing Director Merab Sr. will deliver on the country’s forest sector, mainly on the challenges the country face as the results of deforestation. He will be pushing Liberia’s agenda on the forest sector while seeking for support.
The Minister of Justice and Attorney General of the Republic of Liberia, Cllr. N. Oswald Tweh, is leading the Government of Liberia delegation that is participating in the Forest Governance, Markets & Climate (FGMC) Stakeholder Forum 2026.
At the opening of the Forum, Cllr. Tweh served as a keynote speaker, where he emphasized that forest governance is fundamentally a rule of law issue, stating that sustainable development cannot be achieved without accountable governance of the financial flows that shape forest use and management.
Highlighting Liberia’s experience, the Minister underscored the country’s long-standing legal and institutional framework for forest governance, while acknowledging existing challenges in enforcement and implementation. He reaffirmed the government’s commitment to strengthening accountability, combating illegal forest activities, and ensuring that forest resources benefit the Liberian people.
The Minister also expressed Liberia’s appreciation for its longstanding partnership with the United Kingdom, particularly its continued support toward strengthening forest governance systems and legal frameworks.
The Minister is attending the Forum alongside the Assistant Minister for Economic Affairs of the Ministry of Justice, Joel Elkanah Theoway, as part of Liberia’s continued engagement in international platforms addressing environmental governance and economic development.
The FDA boss said he remains committed to advancing Liberia’s interests in international engagements that support transparency, accountability, and sustainable resource management.
