Officials of the Liberia Immigration Service (LIS) have condemned attack on officers of the LIS assigned at Gborlay border, Nimba County.

According to information gathered from the LIS, dwellers of Gborlay Town’s border attacked officer Cyrus David by discharging his single barrel rounds. The alleged attackers opened the border at 11:00 p.m., thereby allowing their truck loaded with goods to enter inside the Liberian border after it had closed by 6:00 p.m. According to LIS, the action on the part of the attackers undermines the workings of national security at the border.

Authorities of the LIS have threatened the arrest and prosecution of those in connection with the crime.

LIS officials also noted that officers of the LIS will not relent in defending themselves if they are attacked at the various ports of entries.

At the same time, two officers of the LIS assigned at the same border in Gborlay Town, Nimba County, have been attacked by residents of the town. One of the officers is said to be in a critical condition at the Ganta Methodist Hospital, Nimba County.
