Authorities of the Liberia Immigration Service (LIS) on June 19, 2024 received sixteen (16) tablets and power-banks for data collection across Liberia.

According to LISGIS Director General, Richard Ngafuan, the donation is in compliance with LISGIS project 2022 under the administrative data initiative. The project aims at digitizing statical information in Liberia.

Sixteen tablets were initially presented to authorities of the Liberia Immigration Service (LIS) as a pilot project intended for digitizing migration activities at the forty-six (46) recognized entry points of Liberia.

Accordingly, Liberia has one hundred and seventy-six (176) entry points. At the moment, forty-six are recognized entry points by the LIS. LISGIS’ action was designed to support the President of the Republic of Liberia’s ARREST agenda.

During LISGIS donation at the LIS, a series of presentations were made, highlighting the importance of migration statistics in West Africa and Liberia as a country in the sub-region.

This aspect of the presentation was done by Mulbah Kromah, LISGIS Migration Statistics Focus Person, and Ezekiel Kollie, Web Master at LISGIS.

Authorities of LISGIS have promised to provide scratch cards for the tablets for six consecutive months.

LIS, as an institution of the Government of Liberia (GOL) responsible for migration, plays a pivotal role within LISGIS data collection project in the country. LISGIS has promised to provide the remaining tablets soon for the 30 legal entry points in Liberia.

For his part, the Commissioner General of the Liberia Immigration Service (LIS), Atty. Stephen J.H. Zargo, praised LISGIS for their timely contribution in addressing issues of migration in Liberia.

He said the LIS stands ready in working along with LISGIS in digitizing migration statistics across the country.

LIS Deputy Commissioner General for Administration, Elijah F. Rufus, also attended the donation program and expressed the LIS administration willingness in partnering with LISGIS in supporting the President’s ARREST Agenda. The short ceremony went well and was well attended by authorities of LISGIS and LIS as well at the headquarters of the LIS in Mamba Point, Monrovia.
