Several rights advocate groups are calling on President George M. Weah to immediately replace the Managing Director, Duanna Kamara, and others at the Liberia Water and Swear Corporation (LWSC), who were held liable for acts of corruption following over three months of Liberia Anti-Corruption Commission (LACC) investigation regarding corruption.

It can be recalled that the Liberia Anti-Corruption Commission investigative report, released in September 2021, indicted several public officials for alleged acts of corruption at the Liberia Water & Sewer Corporation and the National Port Authority. It has, however, been observed with grave concern that those indicted by the LACC report are still attending normal work duties as though nothing has ever happened.

In a  press release issued in Monrovia over the weekend, George Sam  expressed deep regret that something terrible is going wrong regarding the manner in which corrupt individuals are misusing state resources and getting away with impunity.

This, the release noted, must come to an end, and that President Weah must put his feet down without fear or favor against would-be perpetrators in society.

He added that Transparency International and other international rights group are said to be closely monitoring alleged corrupt practices in post-conflict Liberia.

Activist Sam further warned that cases of corruption must not be overlooked, stressing that corruption and other societal ills led to the civil war destroying lives and properties.

Concluding, the release called on President George M. Weah “to act swiftly following the result of the LACC report to dismiss and turn over for prosecution all those charged/indicted in the LACC report, starting with Duannah Kamara, Managing Director of LWSC, as allegations against them are grievous, ranging from mismanagement to misappropriation of state resources”, stating that developing partners are not happy.

The release is also calling on the LACC and the Ministry of Justice to do the Liberian people justice by releasing the report to the public and withhold people who are charged/indicted from entering their public offices as corrupt officials. It said that the LACC report clearly speaks widespread corruption at the LWSC and NPA.

Meanwhile, Sam lamented that the USAID and World Bank offices in Liberia are seriously uncomfortable with the reinstatement of the LWSC boss, Duanna Kamara, thereby keeping the whistleblower, Sensee Morris, still suspended off the job without pay for more than 7 months, strangulating him like he committed a crime for whistleblowing. Sam stated that the LACC investigation has proved it all.

It is believed that Morris took the whistleblower stand to help safe state resources and to help fight against acts of corruption, which has now been proved by the LACC report.
