Min. Kemayah Calls For Mutual Cooperation Between French Parliament And Liberian Legislature

The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Dee-Maxwell Saah Kemayah, Sr., has called for a mutual cooperation between the Parliament of France and the National Legislature in order to further strengthen the bilateral ties subsisting between the two countries.

   Speaking during a meeting with a member of the French Parliament at the French embassy in Monrovia on Thursday, November 18, 2021, Minister Kemayah said the visit of Honorable El Guerrab to Liberia will see the French Parliament and National Legislature working together, noting that he looks forward to seeing where the two parliaments will engage in exchange of learning visit.

   Minister Kemayah expressed thanks to the French government for all the support to the Government of Liberia (GOL) over the years given the historical ties between the two nations, and called on the government of France to roll out a French learning lesson among member of the executive to enhance their French speaking skills in Liberia.

   Minister Kemayah said he remains confident, and given the diversity and strength of the relationship Liberia and France will continue to engage and explore wide-ranging areas of increased cooperation.

   He assured the visiting French Member of Parliament that Liberia remains committed to “our shared values, including the advancement of democracy, global peace and security, international prosperity, and the promotion of gender equality, among others, noting that like France, Liberia will remain steadfast in championing the cause of humanity and advocating for social justice and the exercise of inalienable rights without precondition.

   Minister Kemayah said President George Manneh Weah has just ended a visit to France, where he spoke at the 75th anniversary of UNESCO in Paris, France. He commended President Emmanuel Macron for the level of support given Liberia during the heat of the COVID-19 pandemic under the leadership of President George Weah, and looked forward to further strengthening the ties between Liberia and France.

   He promised Liberia’s commitment to working with France at the global level in continuation of promoting the core values of democracy, human rights and climate change, amongst others. He also announced Liberia’s zero tolerance on terrorism, disclosing that this is why Liberia is contributing troops to Mali—to bring peace to the sub-region.

   For his part, Honorable Guerrab expressed delight in visiting Liberia, and commended Liberia’s commitment to democratic process, especially in the conduct of elections and upholding the rule of law. He acknowledged the relationship between Liberia and France, and expressed hope that such a relationship will continue.  

   The French Member of Parliament said Liberia is among countries in Africa that are of priority for cooperation for development for the future, which is the framework for Liberia and France development. He further underscored the need for a collective fight against terrorism in the world.
