NOFOL Launches Age With Rights Campaign

The National Old Folks of Liberia (NOFOL) in collaboration with partners have launched the Age with Rights Campaign in Liberia.

Speaking Monday at the head office of NOFOL in Paynesville, the Executive Director of NOFOL, Momo A. Bainda, indicated that the Age with Rights Campaign is intended to advocate for the welfare of elderly people globally.

Director Bainda stated that every year, the 8 of April, has been set aside to champion the welfare and status of elderly people to ensure that they are treated with dignity in every society around the world, and Liberia is no exception.

According to him, elderly people in Liberia have been neglected and marginalized from government functionaries since the end of the Liberian civil war.

He noted that lack of respect for elderly people across the country is alarming, and there is need to honor them as senior citizens who have contributed towards the growth and development of Liberia.

Director Bainda underscored that the bill to establish a commission to cater to older people in Liberia continues to be in the committee room of the Legislature. He explained that the passage of the bill will obligate the Liberian government to take care elderly people in Liberia.

He pointed out that the welfare of older people in Liberia should be prioritized by government as they served their nation over the years.

Director Bainda emphasized that the elderly people will meet with their lawmakers on Thursday, April 11, 2024 to remain them about the passage of the elderly people’s bill, noting everybody will get old tomorrow, so it is the interest of all Liberians.
