Opposition Lies On Government

The opposition bloc has ventured in a lying spree against the Government of Liberia (GOL), apparently to send out a negative image against the Weah administration amidst difficult economic times and a ravaging Coronavirus plague.

The attempt by the opposition to convince the citizenry that murders and kidnappings are on the increase has taken center-stage, with the matter being discussed in every nook and corner of society and by persons of all walks of life.

However, the discussion relating to ritualistic and other killings recently took a different trend when the Secretary General of the People’s Liberation Party (PLP), David Woods Beyan, publicly lied that he was chased by unknown men who shot him in the leg, but at the same time told doctors at the John F. Kennedy Hospital that he mistakenly shot himself while driving.

Beyan’s lie has cought up with him, and the Political Leader of the PLP, Dr. Daniel E. Cassell, along with the executive members of the Organizing Committee of the party, has taken the bold step of suspending him with immediate effect.

The Executive Members of the Organizing Committee of the PLP, with immediate effect, suspended the Acting Secretary General of the party, Beyan, for lying that he was shot by unknown armed robbers, after police preliminary investigation proved otherwise.

Beyan claimed that around 3:00 a.m. on Friday, September 24, 2021, he was shot by unknown armed men for unspecified reasons while on his way home from Kakata, Margibi County, where he had reportedly gone on a party function and to attend a family meeting.

He told newsmen that he noticed two motorbikes carrying four persons tailing him from Mount Barclay, and while In the middle of the Parker Paint road one of the riders reportedly speedily crossed in front of his vehicle.

Beyan claimed that he later got down from his vehicle, in an attempt to compel the bike rider to remove his bike, but was later overpowered by the men and shot on his left thigh.

“They had mask on their faces and I couldn’t recognize any of them. After one of them shot me, they got on the motorbikes and escaped. Right now, I am still feeling pain in my thigh,” he told newsmen.

But giving update recently, the Inspector General (IG) of Police, Col. Patrick Sudue, disclosed that the Secretary General of the People’s Liberation Party (PLP), David Beyan, who accused unknown individuals wearing mask of shooting him in the leg outside his compound, was found out to be lying. Col. Sudue said, “I think if this man had killed himself the whole country would have said it is the government that killed this young man.”

According to the Police IG, the complaint made at the police station was that people went after him on a motorcycle and shot him in front of his fence, which was a lie. “So, immediately we got the information we went to the JFK, but we were told that the doctors were working on him. So we stayed all day. After the doctors completed their work, they asked him to take a rest, so we left him and went. Monday we went to his residence but he told us that he was dizzy, and so we should go back on Wednesday, September 29, 2021. So we went back there on Wednesday, but he told us to go back, again, on Tuesday. But by that time we had already subpoena his medical report, so we went to court and immediately obtained a Writ of Search and Seizure.

“We came back to the yard and there were six vehicles parked. We asked that they identify the particular vehicle he was driving. We entered the parked car and saw the shell of the bullet and the penetration through the seat. He wanted to argue, but broke down when I informed him that we had with us his true confession at the hospital—that he mistakenly shot himself in the leg. That was when he told us that he would cooperate with us,” Col. Sudue explained.

The Police IG lamented that Beyan criminally, maliciously and willfully took the weapon from his residence in Soul Clinic and concealed it as far as 20th Street. Sudue disclosed that the police currently have the weapon and the vehicle, and Beyan is currently at the police headquarters undergoing investigation.

Following the disclosure made by the Police IG, the PLP, through its Vision Bearer Dr. Cassell, considering the severity of the alleged findings of the LNP preliminary investigation, resolved to suspend Beyan for time indefinite.
