The Management of Orange Liberia has concluded a five-day Business Continuity and Crisis Management (BCCM) awareness training for its employees. The event was held from November 1, 2021 to November 5, 2021 and culminated with a fire preparedness exercise, held in conjunction with the Liberia National Fire Service (LNFS).  The event was held at the company’s headquarters on Capital Bypass.

Orange Liberia’s BCCM Manager, Abdoul Ouattara, explained that the BCCM was held to raise awareness about business continuity and how to embed it into the regular culture at Orange. He outlined that BCCM was important to ensuring that the company was prepared to deal with potential threats and risks, including the unlikely event of a fire disaster.  He stated that on the final day of the training, members of Orange Liberia’s top management team, along with over a hundred employees, participated in the fire preparedness drill.  “The employees were able to learn about the different classes of fires, phases of fire, and how to properly extinguish fires using appropriate extinguishers,” Ouattara explained.

At the end of the five-day exercise, Orange Liberia was certificated by officials of the LNFS for “fully implementing the fire risk assessment recommendations prescribed by the LNFS for ensuring a safe working environment”. The agency said that Orange Liberia was now in full compliance, and marked the first of its kind for Liberia.

Diakalia Berte, who served as proxy for Orange Liberia’s CEO, expressed satisfaction at the outcome of the program and the certification of Orange Liberia by the LNFS. He stated that around the globe, Orange prioritizes employee and customer safety, and Liberia was not an exception. “Orange welcomes this certificate of compliance,” said Diakalia. “It is a recognition by the LNFS of the efforts our company is making daily to ensure that our employees and staff have a safe working environment.”

He said because Orange provides crucial telecommunications services relied on by more than half of the population, it was important that the company had in place continuity plans to be able to continue operations in cases of crisis or disasters. Diakalia explained, “This is the first in a series of related trainings geared at preparing us to be able to face crises while ensuring continuity of service.”

Recently, the company conducted several other training events to enable its employees to identify and be prepared to combat cyber-security threats, money laundering and prevent illicit transfer of money for the financing of terrorism.  Employees who participated in both events expressed gratitude to the management for organizing the awareness training.   “These events help to enhance our knowledge in a way that we can be more helpful, not only to the company and our employees but to us in dealing with crises at home or in our local communities,” said  Angel Nyeka, Social Media Associate and BCCM Ambassador for Marketing and Communications Department at Orange Liberia.

The Management of Orange Liberia said it will continue to hold various related trainings throughout the coming months, in a bid to expand employee’s knowledge and capacity in dealing with crisis situations.
