As the nation awaits President George Manneh Weah’s State-of-the-Nation-Address this month, River Gee County Representative, Francis Dopoe, is urging the Chief Executive to ensure that promises that will be made in the speech are fully implemented.

Representative Dopoe said the event should not be like the ones in the past, where the Head of State allegedly made a long list of promises to his citizens only to turn his back on them.

The outspoken opposition lawmaker said he expects the President to change the dynamics by ensuring that whatever he promises are within the reach of his government.

The River Gee Representative emphasized that raising the hope of the poverty-stricken citizens through disjointed speeches that bear no fruit at the end would contravene his expectation of the President.

He disclosed that, during his last address to the nation, President George Weah falsely alarmed that seventy-five thousand arm chairs were at hand, ready for distribution to schools, but lamented that since then the chairs have not been delivered.

Representative Dopoe further disclosed that, in similar vein, the President issued an open instruction to his education minister to produce one hundred thousand chairs, but that, too, was not realized.

Speaking to the Hot Pepper at the ground of the Capitol following the opening of the Fourth Session of the Fifty Fourth Legislature last Monday, the River Gee lawmaker also warned government against what he called fiscal indiscipline.

The lawmaker said, as a result of the rise in Corona virus infections, Liberia as a developing country is experiencing a huge drop in donor support from partners and, as such, the country has to rely on self-help.

At this crucial moment, Representative Dopoe maintained that government is required to properly manage the meager resources at its disposal to avoid running into financial crisis.

He underscored that government should ensure that revenue collected for use in the budget is spent per allotment, otherwise the credibility of the system will be undermined and the plight of the citizens unaddressed.
