Representative-elect Michael M. Thomas has become the first Representative of Montserrado County’s district #4  to light the Christmas tree with a reconciliation message, according to report.

“Politics and campaigns are over, so let us focus on the district rebranding, reconciliation and unity of our people,” Representative-elect Thomas said.

Christmas is an annual festival commemorating the birth of Jesus Christ, observed primarily on December 25 as a religious and cultural celebration among billions of people around the world.

However, in 1882 Edward H. Johnson, Edison’s friend and partner, put together the very first stirring of electric lights meant for a Christmas tree.

Friday evening, Representative-elect Thomas, along with Paynesville City Corporation’s representative, Chairman of the Community and Leadership Development Association (CALDA), Godfred Johnson, and citizens of the district, especially the Du-Port Road belt, lighted the first Christmas tree in the district at Du-Port Road’s intersection.

“This is my way of giving back to our people, to say thank you and congratulation to all of us,” Representative-elect Thomas said. “As we approach the festive season, I want to say the entire celebration will be clouded with unity and reconciliation–because if you look at the recent election result you will notice that the entire country is divided.”

According to him, the Christmas tree will be positioned and lighted at four important localities: Du-Port Road’s intersection, Soul Clinic, Nigeria’s Shop, and FDA Community.

But in a patriotic tone, he pointed out that there will be a festive season celebration for the children of the district, held at different locations, so that the children can enjoy themselves.

He used the occasion to extend Christmas greetings and New Year felicitation to President George M. Weah and his entire government, and President-elect Joseph N. Boakai and his Vice President-elect, Jeremiah K. Koung.

He also publicized an in-progress massive clean-up campaign to give the district a facelift for the festive season.

In separate remarks, the Paynesville City Corporation’s representative and CALDA’s chairman pledged their unflinching support to working with the Representative-elect for the well-being of the district and its citizens.
