The Living In Christ Church, located in Montserrado County’s district #4 over the weekend was roiled with citizens from the over 32 communities of the district, along with other dignitaries from diverse areas, who witnessed Representative Michael M. Thomas dedicate a motor grader machine for the district.

“Today is a monumental and remarkable achievement in the history of our district. We are pleased today to officially dedicate and commission to you for your use the motor grader that was procured singularly by us as a representative of the district,” Representative Thomas said, as he dedicated the motor grading machine for the district and its citizens.

A motor grader is a multipurpose construction equipment used for road construction, and maintenance of dirt and gravel roads.

It was invented in 1885, and has undergone much technological advancement that improved its functionality and increased the number of uses.

The district, which is Montserrado County’s most densely populated section according to the National Elections Commission’s voter registration record, more populated than a few of the fifteen counties, is challenged in several ways: it faces bad feeder road conditions, bad drainage, and rampant flooding situations.

“Today is a milestone of achievement for district #4, Montserrado County. As you all know, one major challenge we have as a district is road infrastructure. Most of the allays are becoming impassable. Feeder roads are challenged, so we have said the entire district—we have rural and urban areas in district #4.  The rural part of our district takes 75% of our land space, which is basically challenged. We are trying with this flood issue and hoping to come over it. Eighteen of our communities are being stricken by flood,” Representative Thomas disclosed.

The motor grader machine was bought for the district and its citizens as Representative Thomas’ campaign promise fulfilment. He promised the electorate during the 2023 general and presidential elections to do so if they elected him as their representative.

“I consider it as campaign promise being fulfilled because we said to our people during the campaign that we were going to do a, b, and d. Part of those proposal that were made to our people was the establishment of the Paynesville College, construction of a hospital in the three regions of the district, which is on-going,” Representative Thomas said as the audience cheered him.

Promise is a legal binding declaration that gives the person to whom it is made a right to expect or to claim the performance or forbearance of a specified act. According to the Representative, the motor grader costs over US$90,000, which was arranged through a loan agreement from a bank. He added that it was bought from the People Republic of China.

However, Representative Thomas used the dedication event to update the district on some of his achievements before purchasing the motor grader. He told his constituents that he serves as Chairman on the Judiciary Committee at the House of Representatives, bought two 12-tyre trucks for the district, a bore-hole machine for the district and has used it to install 20 hand pumps at certain parts of the district with more installation pending. Also, he stated that he signed a memorandum of understanding with the Williams Pauline School, and he will soon control it.

“We secured a parcel of land down Du-Port Road for the trade school’s construction, divided the district into three regions, and each region will have a hospital. Construction is on-going. Besides, we proffered a bill for the establishment of Paynesville Community College, and it has been passed by the House of Representatives and is before the Senate for concurrence,” Representative Thomas said, as the audience cheered him with uncontrollable applauds and victory shouts.

In a related development, Ministry of Public Work Assistant Minister, John K. Zoegar, Jr., thanked Representative Thomas for the machine purchased and pledged the ministry’s full cooperation to opening allays and grading feeder roads. In the same manner, Montserrado County’s district #12 representative lauded his counterpart and cut the ribbon during the dedication of the machine.

Former representative candidate, Community and Leadership Development Association Chairman, Godfred Johnson, and others expressed thanks and appreciation to Representative Thomas, and cemented his working ties with him for the district’s wellbeing.
