Maryland Senator J. Gbleh-Bo Brown has challenged the Liberian Media to be responsible in performing its function as watchdog of society.

He said responsible journalism impact the performance of the nation’s young democracy, and build bridges between the state and its people.

The senator urged reporters to remain vigilant in their quest for the truth and refuse to be compromised by politicians, despite the hardship among media practitioners in the country.

Senator Gbleh-Bo Brown made the remark on his birthday, March 12, 2025, when two local newspapers presented him separate certificates of recognition for good performance during the seatings of the Legislature.

The Maryland County lawmaker welcomed the recognition by the Trumpet and National Mirror newspaper but underscored that the certificate will mean nothing unless it is proved that the gesture was in good faith.

He urged media houses operating in the country to thoroughly investigate the activities of the honorees before granting them certificate of recognition or honor.

The senator emphasized that it is only by doing so that the media can make fair judgement and protect its integrity and independence in the eyes of the people.

Earlier, the editors of the two newspapers said their decision to recognize the work of Senator Brown in the Liberian Senate follows months of investigation into his activities in both the Legislature and the county he represents.

The editors emphasized that its was discovered during the probe that the senator made significant and invaluable contributions to the development of the country during his two tenures as senator.
Touching on his birthday, Senator Gbleh-Bo Brown express gratitude to God for adding another successful year to his age, a blessing which he noted was denied to some people.

Addressing Marylanders and other well wishers who had gathered at his resident in Bardnersville to celebrate his birth anniversary, the senator disclosed that he remained alive to continue his services to Maryland and Liberians in general, as ordained by God.

Senator Brown hailed his constituents for their loyalty and support to his leadership, paying special homage to the people of Big Jaye Town in Barribo Statutory District Maryland County.

He stressed that citizens of Big Jaye Town, especially those residing in Monrovia, are considered backbone in his political successes, adding that nothing can separate him from the people of that town.

Speaking further, the Maryland senator urged political leaders in the country to serve their people with honesty and dedication to their well-being.

He stated that even though there are difficulties along the way in providing credible leadership for the people, political leaders must never lose sight of their responsibilities in society.
