Sen. Dennis Submits Constituency Report
Grand Gedeh County Senator, A Marshall Dennis, presented his constituency report for the fourth session of the fifty-fourth Legislature at an elaborate program held in Zwedru last Saturday.
The annual occasion, which brought together hundreds of citizens from all walks of life, is part of his Constitutional responsibilities as senator of the county. This year’s report comes at a crucial moment—election only eighteen months away
Senator Marshall Dennis, who appears certain of contesting the seat for the second time, spoke about the future of Grand Gedeh in his address to the jubilant crowd at the Zwedru City Hall.
The senator warned that some “demonic vampires” are out to invade the county’s political system and impose on the people a leadership that will rob them of their rights.
He said Grand Gedeans should not sit by and watch the drama unfold; rather, take appropriate measures to weed them out of the county’s political arena.
Senator Dennis underscored that, as time draws nearer for citizens to decide the political future of the county, Grand Gedeans should draw themselves closer to aspirants with good moral conduct and academic credentials.
The senator emphasized that leaving out patriots with vision to allow fake politicians to lead the county will throw Grand Gedeh into serious political uncertainty.
On his contribution to the county over the period under review, Senator Dennis said he succeeded in making the county politically stable through negotiation and reconciling differences among citizens.
Despite the burden on the country due to the Coronavirus pandemic, the senator observed that his leadership made a huge contribution in its effort to provide education and deliver basic health-care to the people of Grand Gedeh, directly and indirectly.
According to him, over one hundred students from the county are on his scholarship program, half of them at the university level.
He disclosed that seven of the beneficiaries, among them two office staffs, have received bachelor’s degrees through the help of the scholarship scheme.
Touching on the successes and challenges of the Legislature during the fourth session, the senator maintained that, despite the tense political atmosphere and stress that exist in Legislature the assemblies made positive impacts on the people through decisions that they made.
The Gedeh County Senator maintained that during the period under review the Senate passed the Government Relief Response to Covid -19 act, approving US$25 million as stimulus package for the lockdown.
The report pointed out further that several other bills and requests were passed into law or granted, including the request by the President, George Manneh Weah, for advice on the TRC’s recommendations, the Senate’s authorization for CBL currency reform, the anti-trafficking bill, and the joint resolution authorizing the conduct of the census in 2022.
Senator Dennis also emphasized in his report that the Senate, through its committees, also performed others functions, including public and confirmation hearings and other interventions at different levels of government.
The response to Senator Marshall Dennis Constituency Report was overwhelming, with civil society organizations, the National Traditional Council, youth and women groups, religious institutions and labor unions operating in the county expressing satisfaction.
The groups, in separate remarks at the program, said the senator competently represented the county during the period under review, and urged him to keep the momentum until the ultimate goals are achieved.
The constituency report was later distributed to all interest groups for their recommendation.
