Sen. Dillon Describes CPP’s Mentality As Selfish & Cowardly
Abraham Darius Dillon, Senator of Montserrado County and Vice Chairman for Political Affairs of the Liberty Party (LP), a constituent party of the Collaboration of Political Parties (CPP), has described as selfish and cowardly the mentality of members of the collaboration that if their candidate does not head the CPP 2023 ticket then there is no CPP.
The core of the nation’s political argument in recent times has centered around who heads the CPP ticket come 2023 to stand up to the Coalition for Democratic Change (CDC) candidate and incumbent President George M. Weah. However, there seems to be no common ground over the matter.
Followers of the Unity Party (UP) Political Leader and former Vice President, Joseph N. Boakai, including popular talk show host, Henry P. Costa, have argued that only a Boakai ticket can defeat the CDC, while followers of the Alternative National Congress (ANC) political Leader, Alexander Cummings, argue the other way round.
Apparently sensing the danger of splitting the CPP into equal halves, Senator Dillon has offered words of caution to the party, in a wake of stopping a possible defeat from the CDC in 2023.
In a Facebook post, Senator Dillon said, “In 2019, a united CPP, backed with support of Liberians home and abroad made it much easier for us to win the Montserrado County Senatorial Seat. As for 2020, it was already known and well settled that we would have also won as we did. We may not have been the best or only qualified within the CPP to have earned the ticket, but we were chosen as the best suited, formidable candidate to defeat CDC.
“This was possible because CPP allowed reasoning to prevail that if we went into the race divided, we would have lost. With the blessings of God, we won Montserrado County ‘bigly’ together, thereby completely dislodging the CDC gang from what was once their cherished stronghold. CDC can no longer boast of Montserrado County as their ‘stronghold’!!
“I had thought and still firmly believe CPP would learn from the unity and oneness that brought such huge victories and use same as the guide toward 2023. It worked for us before, and it can work again; only if we can put our arts together sooner than later.
“I am again admonishing all of us that in our effort and process of finding, selecting and forming the CPP 2023 Presidential ticket, we should do so mindful that the hopes of our people and country are at stake. We must allow good reasoning to prevail in the best interests.
“It is very clear that only CPP can defeat CPP!!! The ruling CDC gang is no match to a united CPP. In the interest of our country, we must lower our egos where necessary and be reasonably selfless where necessary; we must seek after and produce our best. And our best must be a formidable and credible ticket that can win and also govern differently for progress.
“Remember, CDC cannot win CPP; it is only CPP that can defeat CPP either by our actions and or inactions! We should seek God’s wisdom and guidance and stop insulting one another. We should stop this ‘if it is not my candidate then no CPP’ notion. It is selfish, cowardly and against the best, common interest.
“We should learn to exercise some tolerance and stop the unnecessary, unwarranted attacks amongst ourselves and embrace constructive criticism for correction. Show love and respect so we can all ride together in the end.”
