For the past two weeks, officials of the Union of Liberian Association in the Americas (ULAA) have been engaging the three branches of the Government of Liberia (GOL) on issues confronting the livelihood of Liberians living abroad.

Speaking with the head of a ten-man delegation in Liberia and Chairman on External Relations, ULAA, Stephen Binda, Sr., told the Hot Pepper that they have been meeting with several stakeholders in the country, noting that out-country voting topped their discussions on issues highlighted from ULAA.

According to Binda, out-country voting is important to every Liberian citizen residing abroad, and they are concerned about its passage. He noted that the clause of out-country voting was left out of the passage of the dual citizenship law.

Since the coming in of Mohammad Keita’s leadership at ULAA, this is their first leadership visit to Liberia, and is intended to meet with officials of the new administration, private sector and other stakeholders.

The ULAA 10-man delegation include Stephen Binda Sr., Chairman on External Relations; Anthony Kpayea, President, Jersey and Metropolitan areas; Bush Tarty, Assistant General Secretary for Records and Minutes; Rev. Sakou Sirleaf, Assistant General Secretary for Media Relations; Cooper Kwene, member; and Robert Wesley, Chairman of the Broad of Directors, ULAA New York City branch; and Lucy Wilson- Kear, Executive Director, All Liberian Conference on Dual Citizenship (ALCOD).

The Government of Liberia (GOL) is said to have assured the officials of ULAA of its commitment to addressing the concerns raised by Liberian citizens abroad, and expressed willingness to working with ULAA’s new leadership in fostering the country’s development agenda.
