–Cites Health Issues

Finance and Development Planning Minister, Boima Kamara, has issued a formal apology to the House of Representatives, citing health problems for his recent absences. The House accepted his appeal and granted him a pardon.

Minister Kamara addressed the legislative body during their 14th day sitting of the 2nd quarter, explaining his failure to attend previous sessions. Last week, the House had invoked its contempt power under rule four against Kamara for his repeated absences, which had disrupted legislative proceedings.

The Finance Minister had been summoned to discuss crucial financial matters, including updates on Liberia’s consolidated accounts and bank balances, and to validate revenue collection reports from the Liberia Revenue Authority (LRA). His failure to appear had impeded these discussions.

During his appearance on Tuesday, July 2, 2024, Kamara expressed his regret and sought the House’s forgiveness, attributing his absences to his health issues. In response, the House of Representatives decided to pardon Minister Kamara, but cautioned him to prioritize legislative duties and not let minor issues hinder the functions of the Legislature in the future.
